In the hours after Kanye West‘s surprising performance on Saturday Night Live — which included a Trump-related rant that didn’t air at the conclusion of the show — the rapper has been constantly posting to social media.

One of his tweets zooms in on his Make America Great Again hat, which “represents good and America becoming whole again,” and suggests that we, as a society, need to “abolish” the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which brought an end to slavery when it was ratified in 1865.

this represents good and America becoming whole again.  We will no longer outsource to other countries. We build factories here in America and create jobs.  We will provide jobs for all who are free from prisons as we abolish the 13th amendment. Message sent with love pic.twitter.com/a15WqI8zgu

Many who encountered the tweet in their timeline were disturbed and upset, and Chris Evans called out West’s tweet for his “unapologetic conjecture” and unwillingness to look beyond his own “myopia” to see how damaging one tweet can be. “There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books, and frames their myopia as virtue,” the Avengers: Infinity War star responded.

There’s nothing more maddening than debating someone who doesn’t know history, doesn’t read books, and frames their myopia as virtue. The level of unapologetic conjecture I’ve encountered lately isn’t just frustrating, it’s retrogressive, unprecedented and absolutely terrifying. https://t.co/4jCFwB4T5U

After an uproar kicked up in his mentions, West expounded upon his initial tweet.

We apply everyone’s opinions to our platform

Today (Sept. 30) alone, West has tweeted a meme that photoshopped him wearing a giant water bottle into a photo of his wife, that Lorne (Michaels, the creator and producer of SNL) said he’d host the show before the end of the year, that “YZY Is a for purpose (non profit) arm (branch) of Apple,” that one of his goals is to be “in service” of Steve Jobs’ vision, that designer Miuccia Prada is one of his “earth moms,” and a magazine spread of Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner, in addition to his thoughts on the 13th Amendment.
